Metacharge processes real time payment transactions made by consumers for goods and services (both tangible and intangible) over the Internet, by telephone and mail-order.

Built around an advanced payment gateway, the Metacharge service also includes an Internet merchant account (akin to a bank account for credit/debit cards, which is required before a merchant can trade) and a suite of value added services including fraud prevention, ID verification and subscription management.

History
Jonathan Cole and Scott Law founded Metacharge in January 2002. Their vision was to provide internet and MOTO merchants with a comprehensive payment solution.

They employed a team of programmers and software development commenced in February 2002. In May of 2002 Universal Music became the first live merchant using the Metacharge platform.

Since that time the senior management team has been strengthened by the appointments of Matt Hart, Conor O’Shaughnessy and Bruce Burrowes. Metacharge currently operates from its offices in London and Bath.

Metacharge has established relationships with banking and telecommunications partners to enable its merchants to accept a range of payment methods.

The company has processed over 40 million transactions since its inception. During June 2005 more than 5 million consumers viewed Metacharge payment templates.
